Curriculum vitae

Synopsis: In this lecture the author will give an overview about the achievements made in his laboratories concerning hypercoordinated compounds of tin in which the tin centres  exhibit oxidation numbers ranging from +IV to +I. Presented in more detail will be novel stannatranes and related compounds, derivatives of O,C,O-coordinating pincer-type pincer-type ligands as well as an excursion into the chemistry of novel ferrocene-backboned donor ligands. The results obtained contribute to contemporary fundamental research but have also impact for industrial processes.

Curriculum vitae

Synopsis: General methods for the preparation of highly functionalized organometallics of zinc and magnesium will be presented, including the direct insertion of magnesium or zinc, the directed metalation of unsaturated substrates and the performance of halogen-metal exchanges. In each case, the scope and the limitation of the methods will be emphasized. A stereoselective preparation of chiral secondary alkyllithiums will also be shown as well as applications in the field of natural product synthesis. Finally, it will be shown that the use of a continuous flow set-up can dramatically improve the reaction conditions avoiding low reaction temperature and long reaction times.
